Carole Megevand, Country Manager for Kosovo at the World Bank, visited the rehabilitated and modernized Radoniqi–Dukagjini irrigation system as part of the IRIS project.
With financial support from the European Union amounting to €9.1 million, the project enabled the modernization of the system through new equipment and advanced technology. Once fully operational, the system is expected to expand the irrigated area by nearly 4,000 hectares and significantly increase agricultural productivity in the region.
Around 7,000 farmers in the municipalities of Gjakova, Prizren, and Rahovec will benefit from more reliable water supply, more efficient management, and new employment opportunities in the agribusiness sector.
“It was a pleasure to engage with all the stakeholders who contributed to the success of the project. Hearing directly from farmers about the benefits of this modernized system clearly demonstrates the potential for increased production and diversification of agricultural crops,” said Megevand.
This cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development of Kosovo, international partners and local institutions is directly contributing to strengthening agriculture and promoting rural economic development in Kosovo.
